Jubilate Performing Arts

 

(Mission Statement)

 

The primary purpose of Jubilate Performing Arts, a college of classic study in music and theater, is to enrich the lives of children and young adults, strengthening their hearts and minds through music and performing arts.

 

 

The musical curriculum at Jubilate Performing Arts includes: ear training, sight singing, harmonization, and the technical mastery of voice or instrument. Choral music is a mix of sacred and secular works. Acting classes include: the fundamentals of acting including movement, character development, projection and theory.

 

Spring Semester

Saturday Music

 

Saturday Music Class is a free course of study from 9:00-12:00 on Saturdays. All age groups are welcome to participate at different times during the three hour period. These students participate in the end of semester recital.

 

The schedule of classes include:

 

9:00-9:15 Advanced Orchestra arrives and tunes their instruments.

 

9:15-10:15 Advanced Orchestra, for students who are comfortable playing in first position on their instrument.

 

10:15-10:45 Instruction in violin, viola, and cello in the Jubilate Violin Orchestra for ages five and older at the beginning level. The advanced orchestra takes a break in the courtyard during this time.

 

10:45-11:15 Combined Orchestra, for all string players together.

 

11:30-12:00 Musicianship Class for infants, toddlers and older students with instruction in: Matching Pitch, Rhythm Band, Group Singing, Music Theory, and Reading Music. Advanced students learn to teach these subjects during this class. This class also participates in the end of the semester recital.

Chorus/Voice Class:

 

Each class will begin with bel canto vocal instruction along with discussion concerning the basics for singing in a choir and working together as a team, followed by a traditional choir rehearsal. Students will participate in the end of semester recital, with the option of singing at other musical events during the semester.

Ages 7-17. Instructor Laya Field with accompanist Karen Janusz.

 

Wednesdays 4:15-5:15

Tuition: $336.00 plus $6.00 Registration Fee

 

 

Beginning Strings:

 

For beginning instruction in violin, viola and cello for children ages 7-14. We will learn to read simple notes and rhythms and play together in a string ensemble, moving at a beginning level pace, with a focus on the joy of musical interaction. This class is limited in size and provides more individualized attention than the Saturday Class. Students will participate in the end of semester recital.

 

Instruments should be rented, with students arriving on the first day with an instrument, if possible. Music will be provided. Intermediate Strings:

 

For students who are comfortable with their instrument and can read the notes in first position. This class will move at a moderate pace with a focus on technique, music theory, reading music, and playing together in string ensemble, studying the different styles of the master composers. Students will participate in the end of semester recital.

 

Instruments should be rented with students arriving on the first day with an instrument. Music will be provided. Harp Class:

Beginning Harp Class for children ages 4-8 with a limit of four students for this class. Traditional harps will be available for use during class at this beginning level. As general music class using the harp as its base, students will learn basic note reading, rhythms, ensemble skills, ear training, music history, and a simple study of the great composers. Jubilate Performing Arts: Workshops Series

 

Improv: Making it NOW

Improv is an exhilarating artform that asks the performer to live in the moment. Utilizing ensemble work, active listening and saying yes, the possibilities for creation are endless. In this workshop students will learn the basic of building an improvised scene and how to create quick characters on stage.

The Art of Auditioning

In this workshop students will learn about the art of auditioning. Content will cover selecting material, how to make a headshot and resume, audition room etiquette and working with an accompanist. Each student will have the opportunity to practice and get feedback on an audition monologue and a song with an accompanist. Taking place over two Saturdays, students will walk away with a functional headshot and resume. In preparation for the workshop, students are asked to prepare a 1 min monologue and 32 bars of a song.

First Class: April 20, 2019

Scene Study: Acting with a Partner

At the heart of performing is collaboration. This workshop will provide tools for acting with a partner. Students will explore partner work and have the opportunity to work on and perform short partner scenes.

Stage Combat: June Mass Battle

As a performer, being knowledgeable about safety, having spacial awareness and taking care of you collaborators are top necessities! What better way to practice, than through fighting? In this workshop, performers will learn the basics of unarmed combat and knife, putting it into action in a choreographed mass battle.

Theatre: Stage Movement and Presence

You can never practice enough basics! This workshop is designed for actors needing a refresher and new actors who have never learned the technical side to blocking. Students will learn about different kinds of stages, technical blocking terms and how to write down blocking in a script. In addition, students will learn about stage presence and playing in different sized spaces.
